Oops. A faculty member at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University pulled a Plaxico this morning and accidentally shot himself in the leg [Reg. Req'd]. The staff member, whose name has not been released, is an adjunct professor. According ot he Nassau County police he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The school says his wound is "not life-threatening." It might, however, be career-threatening!

The shooting took place at 7:52 a.m. but it is not currently clear if the weapon was properly registered or where on campus exactly the accidental firing took place. In response to the incident the school put out the following statement:

The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is committed to the safety and well-being of all members of the campus community. Long Island University operates under a strict no weapons policy. This morning a faculty member wounded himself during an accidental discharge of a gun he was carrying. No students were present at that time. We understand that the wound is not life-threatening and the faculty member is currently being treated at a nearby hospital. The matter is under active investigation by the local police department and university officials. Public Safety has confirmed this is an isolated incident. Campus activities are proceeding as scheduled.

Who knows, maybe after this whole thing blows over the faculty member will come back and be recruited to be a

receiver

teacher at another nearby school? Cause we doubt he'll be at C.W. Post much longer.
