• Mets 4, Rockies 0: One game after their closer beat up his girlfriend's father at Citi Field, the Mets got a four-hit shutout from Johan Santana and a series win against the Rockies. Santana told Jerry Manuel he was ready for 10 innings, but he only needed to give nine. The Mets got two runs in the first -- one on an Angel Pagan single, another on a Carlos Beltran sacrifice fly -- and two more in the seventh. Santana even scored a run. The Mets host the Phillies for three starting on Friday.
  • Yankees 4, Royals 3: Things got a little hairy in the ninth, but David Robertson struck out Jason Kendall with the tying run on second base. CC Sabathia went 8 2/3 innings for his 15th win in 94-degree heat and got some help from Austin Kearns, who hit his first home run as a Yankee, and Curtis Granderson came back with an RBI single. The Yankees now lead the Rays by two games and have a six-game edge over the Red Sox, who blew a three-run lead in the ninth in Toronto.
