Forest Hills residents were rocked by a series of manhole explosions last night that, by all accounts, seemed quite intense.
The FDNY says that at around 10:45 p.m. last night, three manholes erupted in the Forest Hills/Rego Park area. The explosions centered around Queens Boulevard and 67th to 68th Avenues:

CBS 2 reports it took firefighters about two hours to quell the fires. "It was very loud. It shook the whole building," one neighbor told the station.
PIX 11 reports that the explosions were due to a defective cable, and that Con Edison temporarily shut off power in the area, though it has since been reinstated. No injuries have been reported—we reached out to Con Ed for comment and will update if we hear back.
