A 22-year-old man remains free and faces no charges after he fatally struck a pedestrian with his SUV Sunday morning in Queens. According to police, the driver had been traveling east along Rockaway Point Boulevard shortly after midnight in his 2005 Toyota when he struck a man reportedly walking in the road between Beach 193rd and Beach 184th Streets.
The pedestrian suffered head trauma and was found lying in the roadway by EMS responders. According to photos obtained by the News, the Toyota's windshield was severely smashed in the crash.
The 26-year-old victim was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital, but could not be saved. The driver remained at the scene and faces no charges in connection to the fatal collision.
