Sad news: a dolphin has been found dead today floating near Chelsea Piers, according to DNAInfo... and it's likely the one that's been spotted this week along the shores of New York City. They note that the Riverhead Foundation isn't sure what the cause of death is yet, also added, "We won't know if it's the same dolphin until we match the dorsal fin."

Scott Seisler, the general manager of the marina at Chelsea Piers, found the dolphin off Pier 59 at 7 a.m., promptly calling the Coast Guard. The Riverhead Foundation was set to show up around noon, and they still urge you to call their hotline at (631) 369-9829 if you spot any dolphins, or marine mammals in distress.

Earlier today we noted that the Riverhead Foundation's Kimberly Durham was concerned for the dolphin, because it "can be an indication that something is not right" when an offshore bottlenose dolphin is so close to the shore.
