Have you ever thought to yourself, "Man, I really wish I could harness the power of the sun to reheat my leftovers today?" Yes? Great! Do we have an event for you: the Spring Energy Fair at the Union Square Greenmarket, in which teenagers will demonstrate their slightly dorky, but generally genius pizza-box solar ovens for all to see.

Tomorrow afternoon, teens from James Madison and Edward R. Murrow High schools will show off their self-designed box ovens, which reach around 200 degrees in the hot mid-day sun; that's enough to turn out some entirely edible cheese/tomato/basil pies (although it doesn't quite compare to this 1,000 degree bad boy). They'll also be talking about green design and renewable energy as part of the solar-centric afternoon.

No word yet on whether these new solar-powered boxes will have quite the same impact as, say, pizzacones, but it's definitely a more eco-friendly option. Swing by the market tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to see the solar-powered sizzling in action.
