When hotelier and notorious "Queen of Mean" Leona Helmsley passed away in 2007 she left her pampered pooch Trouble a hefty trust to the tune of $12 million. Trouble went to the gilded dog house in the sky a few years ago but her legacy as the richest bitch in New York City lives on with a new bar at Helmsley's former hotel The New York Palace.

Trouble's Trust opened underneath the hotel lobby's grand staircase last Friday offering a swanky spot to sip an NYC-themed cocktail or two. Catch the mixology action at the liquid metal bar, where bartenders craft libations like The Pampered Pooch ($19), made with Owney's rum, B&B, Cocchi Bianco, lime juice, simple syrup and creole bitters or the "Queen of Mean" ($19) with Breuckelen NY Wheat Whiskey, Ginger Bee NY, Red Jacket NY Apple Juice, Averell "Damson Gin" NY, elderflower syrup, fresh lemon and an apple chip garnish. The bar even commissions its own signature vermouth, "Uncouth Vermouth," which it employs in the Spanish Harlem Rose cocktail ($19) with tequila, lime and ginger.

The hotel recently completed a $140 million renovation, some of which went into the creation of the luxe bar space. The striking floor-to-ceiling wine display glows seductively and the low-ceiling and muted color palate add to the intimacy of the space. On our visit, dignitaries from the visiting members of the United Nations General Assembly packed out the green olive-hued leather banquettes for a few bottles of Veuve Clicquot...at 11:30 a.m.
