The rumors were true. After the beloved Fort Greene bar Moe's closed six weeks ago the Brooklyn Paper reported that the bar's new owners were hoping to keep the name. “It already has a formula that works,” new owner Calvin Clark said at the time. “I want it to stay friendly and unpretentious.” And while Clark won't be calling the new joint Moe's, a flyer The Local found on the bar's door says it will be called... Mo's.
One of the old Moe's co-owners, who left the space in a sing-along of glory after nearly ten years because of rent disputes, was not amused. “I wouldn’t think that anybody would do such a thing,” Ruby Lawrence told the Local. “I don’t think it’s a smart business move, and it’s incredibly rude.”
The old Moe's is still empty, but the flyer on the door says that Mo's will open June 22. Which just happens to be what would have been the old Moe's tenth anniversary. In theory the opening will be part of the Fort Greene Festival.
Before everyone freaks out about Mo's though, remember it could have been worse. They could have called it Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag.
