Perennially packed pancake spot Clinton St. Baking Company is officially expanding their business, taking over the Min's Market bodega space next door. Co-owner DeDe Lahman confirmed the running rumor via email this afternoon, revealing that the construction shed will be going up this week to remodel the space for an opening hopefully in early March.
The new space will boast 55 seats—up from 32 in the old space—which should help ease some of the brunch time congestion. Lahman says the old space will also stay open, eventually transitioning into more of a take out spot for coffee, baked goods and pickup orders. "The rest of the plans for that spot will take shape as we open the new space and suss out what will work for us and our guests," she explains.
Other than increased seating a few steps up the block, not much will be different about the new space, including the menu. "We are not doing anything fancy or different," Lahman says. "We just were bursting at the seams of the other spot and after 13 years serving so many people, we wanted to freshen up, spread out, and minimize wait times for our guests."
