Did you know that Russell Crowe, longtime lead singer of seminal Australian rock band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts and host of this weekend's all-new episode of Saturday Night Live, has never hosted SNL during his long and entertaining career? The Black Crows have been musical guests twice, but not Russell Crowe? That means that Topher Grace, Eric McCormack, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Bill Paxton, Roma Downey, Sting, Jeremy Piven, and poor-man's-Russell-Crowe Gerard Butler have all hosted more episodes of SNL than the co-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs. I've never thought about this before now, but now that I have, it is a COMPLETE travesty that the thespian god who once steered the HMS Surprise has never gotten his chance to sing a song with Justin Timberlake while dressed as tofu. I would start a petition to right this wrong, if he weren't already scheduled to host this week.

So Crowe has some very good reasons to throw back some shots with Leslie Jones in the promos below.

Give or take the odd biblical epic, Crowe has stuck to supporting roles in big box office films and lower-key movies in recent years. He also has seemed a little confused by comedy nowadays, so hopefully Crowe was ready for comedy bootcamp at Studio 8H this week—as anyone who has seen his hilarious turn as Pearly Soames in Winter's Tale knows, Crowe definitely has some comedic chops.
